Liberty was composed during J.J. Shea's four-year diplomatic posting to New York City. Inspired by the sight of the Statue of Liberty (visible from his Manhattan apartment), the song references the foundational phrase of the Declaration of Independence – “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” - and the official motto of the United States, "In God We Trust." Recorded at Outer Limits studio, Buffalo, N.Y. the vocals are backed by great upstate New York studio musicians on guitars and drums.
